Novelty Cookies Class Singapore | Delicious Pastry | Hands-on ClassesNovelty cookies are a sugar cookie that is cut into a particular shape.

The cookie is then decorated with frosting to create a design that is unique and interesting.

You can find novelty cookies at bakeries, parties, and special events.

Usually, the cookie will be inspired by the special occasion or event.

The holidays are when novelty cookies are used the most.

We see cookies in the shape of Christmas trees, Santa Claus, and stars.

If you go to a baby shower, you may see cookies in the shape of babies or pacifiers.

Baking Techniques

There are a few basic techniques when it comes to creating and decorating novelty cookies.

The frosting is what makes the cookie beautiful, colourful and fun.

Learning to pipe frosting onto cookies and cakes does take practice but is what makes the dessert so enjoyable and pleasing to the eye.

Usually, simpler piping frostings are made of confectioner’s sugar, sugar, butter, shortening, milk, or water.

These ingredients make the frosting soft and pliable which is perfect for piping.

Royal icing is not ideal to use in cookie decoration.

When deciding on the coloring and flavoring of the icing, you can pair the colors to match the flavors.

For example, orange colour can be the flavour of oranges, and purple can be grape.

Red for strawberry, green for apple and so on.

This adds so much character to the cookie your guests will just love it!

When adding colour to your icing, start by mixing the colour into one tablespoon of icing.

Then add the concentrate into the larger batch of icing.

This will make it easier to blend the colour throughout the entire icing batch.

When applying the icing, you will want to frost the cookies by using a pastry brush or spatula.

You can also ice the cookies by dipping them directly into the bowl of icing and lifting up in a twisting motion which will let the extra icing drip back into the bowl.

To cover any bare spots, use a knife and smooth them over.

Once you have done the first coating of icing, you can add piping and decorations to the cookie, such as polka dots, stripes, writing, and even figures.
