Knowing your Salad Greens - Healthy Choice

Create Healthy Cuisine – Make Healthy Cooking Your Everyday Choice!

Over the past few years, there has been a real surge in the healthy lifestyle industry.

From eating clean to Paleo diets, it seems that everyone is more focused on well-being and a healthy way of life.

You don’t have to change your whole lifestyle and diet to become healthier.

Most people have had more success by gradually introducing healthy options until it makes up the bulk of what they’re eating.

We will go over a few easy options for you to try out. You might want to incorporate them into your current diet and perhaps look into other healthy options to add over time.

Dehydrated Snacks

Quite often when we reach for a bag of chips or something sweet, our bodies don’t need the salt or sugar found in most snacks, we’re just bored.

That’s why making the shift from potato chips to healthier snacks is one of the lifestyle changes you should make initially.

If you buy a food dehydrator, you could also end up saving money on snacks in the long run.

You can make both sweet and savoury snacks in the dehydrator depending on what type of snacks you like.

For example, green bean chips are a great savoury snack, and dehydrated sliced banana is a great sweet snack.

Green Bean Chips – Make sure the beans are at room temperature. Cover them in oil and seasoning.

Then put them in the dehydrator to dry until they are crispy. It usually takes around 11 hours at 52 degrees Celsius.

Banana Chips – Slice a banana into half a centimetre slices and dip them into lemon juice (stops them from turning brown).

Set the dehydrator to 66 degrees Celsius for two hours. Then adjust the dehydrator to 55 degrees Celsius for the remaining 6 hours.

Remember to flip them over halfway through. Cool and eat!

The Blender Is Your Friend

You’ll often find a blender in most kitchens, and it’s usually hidden away in some cupboard, or in some cases, still in the box somewhere in the house.

I know I can’t remember buying a blender for myself, but I know I own two of them.

That’s because blenders are a standard gift for housewarmings, weddings, etc.

If you don’t have one, they are usually inexpensive to purchase.

The blender can be a great tool if you know what to put into it. See the below two examples of healthy and delicious shakes you can make using one.

Almond Shake – Add a cup of almond milk, a cup of yoghurt (plain), ice (1 cup), a quarter of a cup of slivered almonds and two (2) teaspoons of sugar. Blend until the shake is at the desired texture and enjoy.

Healthy Banana Smoothie – Blend two (2) bananas, low-fat milk and honey

There is no limit to the wonderfully healthy shakes you can make with one of these things; they’re fantastic.

Healthy Meals

Another way you can make your lifestyle healthier is to eat healthy main meals.

This isn’t tricky, and it is easier to cook healthy wholesome meals than unhealthy meals.

There are so many websites and recipe books out there which show you how to prepare these meals, so there is no need to list any particular recipe here, but we will go over the basics.

Don’t Use Much Oil

  • Find substitutes for salt like freshly squeezed lemon and chilli.
  • Limit the amount of carbohydrates used in your cooking.
  • Stay away from any processed foods, and this includes sauces. It’s better to prepare the sauce from scratch, and it’s fun too.
  • Choose lean meat every time.
  • Stay away from animal fats. Be sure to trim the fat from the meat before cooking.
  • Boiling or steaming is far better than frying.

And Voila!

And there you have it!

There’s not much else to it as long as you follow the above, you can come up with many healthy wholesome meals.
