Chinese Cuisine is one of the mainstream cuisines of the world.
It’s not only famous in countries with Chinese ethnicity like Singapore but also famous throughout the world.
Chinese cuisine originated in China and quickly spread throughout the world because of its amazing taste.
Cantonese Cuisine is a subset of Chinese cuisine.
It is regarded as one of the Eight Culinary Traditions of Chinese Cuisine.
The main elements of this cuisine include rice wine, salt, sugar and a host of spices like garlic, ginger, cloves, cinnamon etc.
Cantonese cuisine also relies heavily on a variety of sauces that enhance the flavour to a different level altogether.
Here in our Cantonese Cuisine Cooking class, we will teach you how to create authentic Cantonese dishes that will be easy and fun to make.
Our Chinese Chef instructor (Chef Shih) will help you master the art of Chinese cooking as he teaches you three of China’s most famous dishes.
First up on the menu is Claypot rice with Chinese waxed meat. Claypot rice is very easy to make.
Rice is first made in a claypot and then the cooked ingredients like vegetables, sauces and chicken are added in later.
For those of you unfamiliar with the term, waxed meat is actually a way of preserving meat in China. The meat to be preserved is de-boned and flattened.
Afterwards, it is marinated with a variety of oils and spices and then left to dry under the sun.
This ensures that meat stays fresh for a long amount of time. This is the meat we will be using for our purposes.
This dish is great for any occasion and can be made easily.
Next up on the menu is another Chinese classic, steamed radish cake.
It’s very simple and easy to make but tastes great. It involves adding shredded radish to a piece of white cake.
Now, this is the very basic version of the cake.
But Chef Shih believes in experimentation so you will be encouraged to use a variety of other ingredients like mushrooms and vegetables.
To make the cake sweeter even honey can be used.
This cake can be used as a sweet dish at the end of the meal or as an appetizer before the start of the meal.
Either way, it is sure to leave your guests spellbound with its amazing taste.
Now, no meal can ever be complete without a dessert.
And since we are talking of Chinese, Chef Shih brings you one of the most famous desserts in China, Iced Pomelo Mango with Sago.
It is a typical Hong Kong dessert consisting of mangoes, pomelo and of course, sago.
The Pomelo Mango dessert is generally prepared with coconut milk and can not only be used as a dessert but also for a variety of other purposes like toppings for cake or as a flavouring agent.
Whatever the use, you are sure to have lots of fun making this sweet dish.
